Privacy policy
SOAK is a Spanish learning app made by Noles Technology Inc. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with and the choices you have. The short version: we use your data to run SOAK and make it better. We don't sell it, and there are no ads.
Who we are
Noles Technology Inc. ("we", "us") is a Delaware corporation and the controller of your personal data. Our address is c/o Mark Arroyo, 46 Avenue B, New York, NY 10009, USA. Questions or requests: privacy@getsoak.app.
What we collect
Information you give us
- Account: your email address and a securely hashed password, or, if you continue with Apple or Google, the name and email they share with us (Apple can share a private relay address).
- Profile: your first name, native language, why you're learning Spanish and your country.
- Waitlist: your email address, which form you used and your browser's user agent if you sign up for early access on our website. We also keep a hashed copy of your IP address to limit repeated attempts.
- Sentences you write or say: when you use "Use it" to practise a word, the sentence you type or say.
- Messages: anything you send us by email, including support and creator requests.
Information created as you use SOAK
- Learning data: the words you tap, save and review, your answers, your level, placement results, watch time, streaks, daily goal, coins and badges.
- Usage data: which features you use and basic app events, such as opening a screen or finishing a review. We collect a limited, fixed list of events.
- Device data: device model, operating system, app version, language and a random identifier for your installation.
- Purchases: if you subscribe to SOAK Pro, Apple processes the payment. We receive the subscription status and a purchase receipt, never your card details.
Speech
The Speak practice mode uses Apple's speech recognition to check your pronunciation. Where your iPhone supports it, recognition happens on the device. Otherwise Apple processes the audio under its own privacy policy. We don't store your voice recordings.
How we use it
- To create and run your account and keep your progress in sync.
- To personalise SOAK: choosing videos at your level, scheduling reviews and showing how much of each video you'll understand.
- To give feedback on sentences you write in "Use it", using an AI model.
- To process subscriptions and restore purchases.
- To understand how SOAK is used, fix problems and improve the app.
- To send service emails, such as email confirmations, password resets and important account notices.
- To send tips and news about SOAK and other Noles Technology Inc. products, only if you opt in. You can opt out at any time with the link in any email or by writing to us.
- To keep SOAK safe and comply with the law.
Where the law requires a legal basis (for example in the EU or UK), we rely on performing our contract with you, our legitimate interest in running and improving SOAK, your consent (for marketing), and our legal obligations.
Who we share it with
We share data only with service providers who help us run SOAK, under contracts that limit how they can use it:

YouTube: videos in SOAK are played by YouTube's embedded player, which is operated by Google. Google may collect information when a video plays, under the Google Privacy Policy and the YouTube Terms of Service.
Noles Technology: your account details (email, first name, app, languages, learning goal, country, marketing choice and sign-up date) are kept in one Noles Technology Inc. customer database shared by our apps, so one account and one marketing choice work across our products.
We may also disclose data if required by law, to protect rights and safety, or as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, in which case this policy will continue to apply to your data. We do not sell or rent your personal data, and we don't share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
International transfers
We're based in the United States and our providers mostly store data there. When we transfer data from the EU, UK or other regions, we use appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and learning data while your account exists. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, except where we must keep some of it to meet legal, tax or accounting obligations. Waitlist emails are kept until launch plus 12 months, or until you ask us to remove them.
Your choices and rights
- Delete your account: in the app, go to Settings, then Account, then Delete account. This deletes your account and learning data.
- Marketing: opt out with the link in any marketing email, or by emailing us.
- Access, correction, deletion, portability and objection: email privacy@getsoak.app. We'll respond within 30 days (or faster where the law requires).
- California residents: you have the right to know, delete and correct your data, and not to be discriminated against for using these rights. We don't sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law.
- EU and UK residents: you can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Children
SOAK is not intended for children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU and UK), and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has given us personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.
Security
We use encryption in transit, access controls and reputable providers to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your data safe and will notify you if a breach affects you where the law requires.
Changes
We'll update this policy as SOAK changes. If the changes are significant, we'll tell you in the app or by email before they take effect.
